In this application note Nanovea use the T50 Tribometer to measure the coefficient of friction between a 6mm teflon ball and a plastic tube in a lubricated and non-lubricated state. Due to the geometry of the plastic tube a linear reciprocating wear test is performed. In the medical industry this test is important because where plastic tubing is used for inserting medical or surgical devices into the body a smooth surface finish is needed. Lubricant is introduced in one of the test set-ups to determine if this is necessary to obtain the required COF and other parameters such as load and speed can be adjusted.
This test set-up is highly repeatable and so a highly effective method of studying sample COF under different conditions.
